What’s Next for Desert Stages Theatre

Dear Friends of Desert Stages Theatre,

The DST community now also looks ahead for what’s next for the theatre. In case you were not aware, Desert Stages is no longer able to call Fashion Square Mall our home. March 2 will be our last performance in the converted Harkins Theater that we’ve used for seven and a half years. We are saddened to lose this location, but have been overwhelmed with the heartfelt messages and support we have received since our initial announcement of this news on January 21.

As DST enters this time of transition you may ask yourself, “what’s next?” I’m glad you asked! This year Desert Stages Theatre celebrates 30 years of community theatre in Scottsdale, and we intend to be around for the next 30 years. Below are the three primary steps we are taking to move forward:

1. Summer Camp 2025: DST is committed to providing exceptional summer camps with talented and experienced counselors. How we are going to get there: we are actively and intently looking for a summer camp location. We know families are finalizing their summer plans soon, and we may have to get creative with the space we rent. Right now this is our top priority.

2. Temporary & Permanent Performance Venue: DST’s next priority is to secure a location to produce shows. How we are going to get there: ideally a Summer Camp space could also function as a performance space, but we know that could prove challenging. We hope to identify a location in South Scottsdale, but are also depending on the DST community to help.

3. Raise a substantial amount of money to rent new space and a storage unit, pay our summer camp staff, and renovate a new permanent location. How we are going to get there: we need your support! Desert Stages Theatre provides a unique opportunity to showcase young actors in the Valley, and we want to continue that tradition for the next 30 years. We are rolling out several different options for individuals, businesses, and families to participate at whatever level they feel comfortable.

  • 30 for 30 – This simple ask is for $30 to celebrate 30 years of DST and help ensure 30 more years.
  • Pack the House: School of Rock – Saturday, February 22 – These special tickets allow you to come enjoy School of Rock and then engage in a Q&A with the cast after the show. Drinks and desserts will be served.
  • Desert Stages 30th Anniversary Gala: Masquerade of Memories, Our “Next Act”! – Friday, April 11, 6-10PM, Museum of the West – Tickets go on sale soon for this amazing event, featuring live and silent auctions, live music, and performances from Desert Stages’ 30-year history.
  • Make a Donation – Please consider making a donation to support our Next Act — no amount too small or large.
